2 lovely but different homes: a photographer's loft, and a couple's ode to their travels

Next, the home of a couple who are world travelers, yet proclaim themselves also to be homebodies. I can relate to this because I love traveling, but I also love coming back home.

Under the classic alarm clock is one of the funniest books ever, "Me Talk Pretty One Day" by David Sedaris. If you haven't read it - do so...

These panels from Indonesia were too big to get back home, so they bought similar ones they found imported to the states. I deal with this all the time. When I travel, I often just have a book bag, and sometimes shipping an item back home is more expensive from buying something similar already imported to the states...

The painting is a child's work from Cambodia. They sell their art on the streets to pay for tuition.

Has anysone seen this travel/shopping show?

So I was introduced to this show a while back, but I don't get the Sundance channel so I've never actually seen it. The show is called "Man Shops Globe," and features Keith Johnson - buyer at large for Anthropologie. The show was described to me as such, "Cameras follow Keith from flea markets in Paris to remote villages in India and obscure art studios in Turkey in his quest for the most unique and unusual decorative objects from around the world."

It sounded interesting so I went to the site to take a peak. From the video clips I saw it was really nice to see how Keith's creative mind worked. He could see an inspiring object, it's potential, and decide what it needed to be just perfect for the stores. I also think this show is good to educate viewers about the arts around the world, and what cultures are responsible for what crafts. I'm including a video clip below, and some pictures I found on the site. From what I've seen so far, if I had Sundance I'd probably check out this show!

A personal announcement: My plans this summer

As you may or may not know, this summer is going to be an exciting one for me. My boyfriend and I are backpacking around Europe for 9 weeks. We leave on June 17th, and I'll be returning to the states on August 25th. The countries we plan to visit include Spain, Italy, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Holland, Belgium, and France. I'll go into more detail including what areas of each country we'll be seeing in future posts.

We'll begin our trip in Galicia, on the coast of Spain

Further on in the trip we will be visiting Cinque Terre, on the northwest coast of Italy



By the middle of July we will be staying in a remote area of the Swiss Alps!

I should also mention that, since I won't be bringing my computer, I'm not really sure what the posting schedule is going to look like. I'll do my best to check in and write something on atleast a weekly basis. I really will miss all of you and do hope that you'll visit me on Decorology from time to time this summer, and hopefully full time again in September when I have a normal schedule once more. And of course I'll be sharing tons of pictures from my travels - which you won't want to miss!

A home with clean Scandinavian design but with personal touches life and travels

Scandinavian decor is a look I seldom dislike, as it follows one of my major decorating mantras, which is to keep your possessions edits to things that are functional and beautiful, and/or sentimental. I thought this home blended my whole decorating philosophy beautifully!

A glamorous, exotic retreat

I'm going to Morocco in January, and I couldn't be more excited. I've wanted to go ever since the first time I ate at a Moroccan restaurant in NYC. I saw a beautiful ad for this hotel in Marrakech, called "La Mamounia" in House Beautiful, and I decided to see if there were more pics online. Granted, I have a hostel budget, but I can dream!




mmm...Moroccan food....



I can't wait to see the architecture!
